Programs

Early Intervention

This program stimulates and fosters the physical, intellectual and social development of a child from an early age to gain and strengthen abilities that have been affected by a disability. It is important to start helping children at an early age to help encourage growth throughout their life. Children can begin this program starting as an infant and can transition into another program at age 4.

Autism Programs

This program offers specialized attention to children and teenagers with autism. We address sensory processing, communication, independence, and academic needs. While receiving services on site, the students participate in both individual and group activities. Each child receives individualized attention to provide the best environment for their learning needs when attending the services provided by Tesoros. To begin and end their time, students are in groups for devotions and snacks to practice socializing in a structured, safe environment.

Special Education

Special education covers multiple programs that support children with learning needs, supporting academic growth and equipping students with independent living skills.  As part of our special education continuum of services, students may be involved in our Academic Program, our Vocational Program, or our Skills Development Program.

The Academic Program supports students in learning math, reading, and writing. It has a variety of students involved, ranging in multiple levels of learning and disabilities. Some of our students recieve all of their education at Tesoros de Dios, while others also attend a public or private school. Students can begin attending our educational support at the age of 5 and continue attending until they are 20 years old.

The Vocational Program helps teenagers with disabilities to acquire independent living skills that will help them be part of the community they live in, promoting independence in the home, at school, at church, and in the community. Teachers cover skills in cleaning, household tasks, hygiene, safety, and basic job skills. Students may begin attending at age 12 and continue the program until they are 20 years old.

The Skill Development Program includes school-age children that require more extensive support than is offered in our Academic Program. In this program students continue developing physical, language, sensory, and cognitive skills. They receive individualized instruction for the best learning experience.

Palliative Care

This program offers therapy to children and teenagers with more severe disabilities with the purpose of maintaining skills and providing quality of life care. Mothers work directly with our physical therapists to learn and develop a care plan for their child.

Transition Program

In this program, young adults ages 18-23 are preparing to graduate from Tesoros de Dios and start their lives in the community. The students learn important skills to have independence in one of three areas: community living, working, or attending university. The program lasts a maximum of two years and ends with a community internship in an area appropriate for the interest and skills of the student.

Services

Equine Therapy

Equine therapy was the original service offered at Tesoros de Dios. We provide equine therapy in order to promote development in physical, occupational, behavioral, and language areas, where the movement of the horse is used as part of an integral intervention. Through this therapy, a child with a disability can acquire strengthened muscles, coordination, language, concentration, emotional control, social awareness, relationship with others, and self-esteem.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on the rehabilitation of sensory, fine motor, and life skills for children and teenagers. Our physical therapists work with children in this area, and use fun games and toys to develop the skills needed.

Speech Therapy

Students have the opportunity to learn interactive skills on the iPad or computer and develop their cognitive skills through the use of technology. The learning happening in the classroom is extended to computer class as the student uses games and typing skills to continue growing.

Psychology and Counseling

Families are also offered services at Tesoros de Dios, and we support and collaborate with them in a variety of ways as they provide care for their children with disabilities. We provide spiritual support through devotions, along with counseling sessions on grief, transitions, and conflict resolution. The family is also involved in the development of each child’s goals and therapy programs. By forming this partnership, our impact goes far beyond the time a child spends at the center, because home is a place where they can work toward their goals when parents are equipped and supported.

Bible Teaching

A foundational part of attending Tesoros de Dios is worshiping together and connecting with God. Both students and parents attend devotional time led by staff members. This time includes learning stories in the Bible, talking about how we can apply lessons to our lives, praying, singing, and sharing stories of God’s work in each others’ lives.

Home Treatment

For individuals unable to attend programs at Tesoros de Dios, we provide home visit services that allow for staff to conduct therapy in the individual’s home. Types of therapies provided include respiratory therapy, massage, and changing positions to avoid bed sores.

Health Plans

We recognize that the physical and emotional health of our students is of utmost importance, and our health plans seek to address this crucial area of life. Physically, services can include providing fortified soy rice, training in feeding techniques for individuals with disabilities, and preventative health training for common illnesses. Emotionally, services are provided by our psychologist in the form of counseling for emotional or behavioral needs.
